We have DSL modems available, either for rental at $5.00 per month, or you can purchase one for $89.95 (it's compatible with all DSL service offered in the province). We have received a large number of calls lately from Merge subscribers, asking about long distance charges that have started appearing on their bills. These are usually the result of fraud, and caused by malicious software that they have - usually without realizing it - downloaded and installed on their computers. If you receive an email claiming to be from Merge, that states something along the line that your account has been temporarily suspended, that it has been sending out a large number of viruses, that our mail server is going to be unavailable, or explaining that you might be infected by a "proxy-relay trojan," please be advised that it most probably is not from us. If the message goes on to instruct you to open an attached zip file, and includes a password to use to do so, it most definately is not from us. Do not open the attachment. Update your virus software!
If you haven't updated your virus software this week, do it now. If you don't have virus software, now would be the best time to getit. There is currently a *major* barrage of new viruses being unleashed on the internet. An unprecedented number of viruses have been discovered this week. According to one report, over a 3 hour period on Wed, 5 new viruses were detected by security agencies.
