"Your book is everything I expected and more. I appreciate the straight forward format, the clearly outlined directions and the wonderful diagrams. It's rare to find an outstanding artist who is also a master teacher.....thank you for putting so much energy and effort into this book! This is one reference book on my shelf which will have a tattered cover and paint smudged pages in no time...you have a winner, Linda."

"I purchased your book and want you to know I'm loving it. I am reading it word for word and look forward to painting along with it. "

As a teacher (recently retired) I appreciate the power of good writing to motivate and inspire learners, and I have to say how much I enjoy reading "Watercolor painting Outside the Lines - A Positive Approach to Negative Painting" by Linda Kemp.
Here are some of the features of this book which I like.
It is liberally laced with exquisite examples of watercolours to inspire and draw the reader into trying to create like-spirited paintings. Although these are incredibly complex paintings, their small size, on average around 11” x 11”, allows one to consider the possibility that they are ‘do-able’, and thus encourages even the beginning painter to dive fearlessly into the demonstration exercises.
There is a chapter on the design and planning of your work; an aspect of art which is crucial to reliably successful results, but is often mysterious to those who have not taken formal art classes. And yet, good design and planning is eminently learnable. This book deals with the topic clearly and logically , with many valuable visual aids, and even includes a picture planning worksheet to help the reader improve their skills.
The text is a delight to read, never dull and boring, and even the subtitles are often filled with juicy vocabulary. This makes the reader feel good about what he/she is reading, and motivates one to “be creative” and continue on.
For the bold in spirit, on the prowl for new perspectives, new ways of seeing and painting, and for those looking for ways to become bolder in their art, “Watercolor: Painting Outside the Lines: A Positive Approach to Negative Painting” by Linda Kemp, offers food for thought; indeed, it is a veritable feast for the mind.
